EMPLOYEE COUNSELLING ADELAIDE
Confidential Workplace Counselling for Employees
Flexible counselling support for small businesses that want to support their staff without committing to an ongoing program.
I work with small businesses across Adelaide, to support their staff through workplace pressures, communication challenges, burnout, and the challenges that can arise when work and personal responsibilities overlap. Employees have a confidential space to talk things through, feel heard, and explore practical ways forward.
You can choose to fund one counselling session, a small number of sessions, or ongoing support — depending on what works for your business and your employee.
Supporting Employee Wellbeing in Small Businesses
Small businesses often care deeply about the wellbeing of their staff but don't always need or have the budget for a traditional Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Employee counselling provides a flexible way to offer confidential support when an employee is going through a difficult period, without committing to an ongoing counselling arrangement.
Employees may benefit from counselling when they're experiencing workplace stress, feeling overwhelmed, navigating communication difficulties, or finding it difficult to balance the demands of work and life.
You decide what level of support you can offer. Your employee decides whether they would like to use it.
Support That Fits Your Business
You don't need to commit to an ongoing counselling program to support an employee.
You might choose to fund:
One counselling session for an employee who is doing it tough
A small number of sessions during a particularly challenging period
Ongoing sessions where continued support is appropriate
The arrangement can be tailored to your business, your circumstances and the level of support you're comfortable providing.
Once an employer-funded arrangement comes to an end, the employee can choose whether they would like to continue counselling privately at their own cost.
This means you can provide meaningful support to your staff without having to commit to an ongoing arrangement.
How Does Employee Counselling Work?
If you're concerned about an employee and would like to offer them counselling support, the process is straightforward.
1. You contact Chat It Out
We discuss your workplace, the situation and the type of support you'd like to offer.
You can decide how many sessions you'd like to fund and what arrangement works for your business.
2. You offer support to your employee
You let your employee know that confidential counselling is available and provide them with the information they need to arrange an appointment.
3. Your employee contacts Chat It Out directly
The employee arranges their own appointment.
They decide whether they would like to attend and what they would like to discuss.
4. Counselling remains confidential
Sessions are private and independent from the workplace.
Information about what is discussed is not provided to the employer unless the employee gives explicit written consent allowing particular information to be shared, subject to the usual limits of confidentiality.
5. The business pays for the agreed sessions
The employer is invoiced for the sessions they have agreed to fund.
There are no ongoing subscriptions or contracts.
When you notice someone isn’t quite themselves
One of the hardest parts of leading a team is noticing when someone doesn't seem like themselves and wondering whether you should say something or how to start the conversation. Sometimes there isn’t a clear reason at all. You may simply have a sense that something has changed.
You might notice an employee who is usually engaged becoming withdrawn, quieter than usual, more reactive or emotional. They may seem overwhelmed, have difficulty concentrating, take more time off than usual, or simply not seem like themselves.
Often, these changes aren't about one thing. Workplace pressures, family responsibilities, health concerns and life's unexpected challenges can all affect how someone is coping.
Offering confidential counselling is about letting an employee know you've noticed they're doing it tough, that you care about their wellbeing, and that support is available if they choose to use it.
Employees can't be forced to attend counselling. The decision is always theirs. Sometimes, simply knowing their employer has noticed and is willing to provide confidential support is enough to help someone take that first step.
Why Businesses Work With Cheryl
Support that understands both people and workplaces
Small businesses often want to support their staff but don’t always need a large Employee Assistance Program (EAP) model.
Many counsellors understand emotional wellbeing. Cheryl also understands workplaces.
Before becoming a counsellor, Cheryl spent more than 20 years working across leadership, HR and people-focused roles in small business, corporate, not-for-profit, real estate, construction and FIFO environments.
Having supported people both in workplaces and in counselling, Cheryl understands that sometimes what's happening at work affects home life, and sometimes what’s happening at home affects work.
Employees work with the same counsellor throughout their support - creating continuity, trust and reducing the need to repeat their story.
Employer-funded or privately continued support
The employer can choose how many sessions they would like to fund.
If the employee would like to continue counselling after the employer-funded sessions have finished, they can discuss ongoing private counselling directly with Chat It Out.
This gives businesses the flexibility to provide support within their available budget, while allowing employees to make their own decisions about any ongoing counselling.
